Crystal Reports Bootcamp
Course Fee: $600 USD

Learn the basic functionality of Crystal Reports in this intensive, one day course. No experience necessary.
Following the course, you will be able to:
- Create a custom Crystal Report and link it to TMS
- Understand important relational database concepts
- Understand the Crystal Reports design environment and available options
- Filter, sort, and group records on a report; work with parameters
- Modify existing Crystal Reports
This course assumes that you have basic familiarity with TMS, and want to either create your own Crystal Reports or modify existing standard reports.
Personalized TMS: Mastering Flex Fields and User-defined Forms

There are more standard TMS configuration features than many users are aware of. Learn how to use them to “customize” TMS in this hands-on workshop. Topics will include configuring search fields, editing field labels and field-specific Help, changing query groups, and more.
This course is recommended for TMS database administrators or other staff responsible for configuration.
Following this course, you will be able to:
- Effectively apply TMS Configuration options
- Understand how to set basic configurations in TMS Configuration to match your institution’s workflow and requirements
- Customize the fields available in the Query Assistant

This workshop will provide a hands-on exploration of the next generation of TMS: TMS Collections. The focus is on tasks users will perform including, cataloguing objects, tracking exhibition and loan activities, searching the database, reporting on and exporting data, and more. Tasks will be viewed through the lens of differing users such as Registrars, Curators, and Collections Managers.
Learn about powerful, cross-department workflow options available when using TMS Collections in conjunction with other applications in The TMS Suite.

SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) Fundamentals

TMS includes a new reporting option: SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS). Learn the fundamentals of using SSRS with TMS in this course. This course is recommended for TMS administrators and others with a general understanding of TMS and the underlying data structure.

Prep for TMS Collections: Configuration

After an initial introduction, focus will be on the robust customization tools that drive TMS Collections. We will explore how configuration tools like Database Configuration and List View/Data View Designer work with TMS Collections, and use the browser-based Composer to design custom data entry screens. We will also look at how features such as FlexFields and the new Dashboard can be used together to foster collaborative workflows.
Following this course, you will understand how to shape TMS Collections for your specific needs.

TMS Security
Course Fee: $300

TMS Security controls user access to modules, tables, fields, and functions. TMS Department-level user security has been expanded to modules beyond Objects and Exhibitions in recent versions, now providing control for access to Loans, Media, Events, and Sites. This course will cover the steps of configuring security groups and setting Overall and Department-level security to user accounts. In addition to covering the mechanics of Security Configuration, this workshop will give pointers for developing an overall plan for the security levels required for your institution’s TMS implementation.
This hands-on workshop is recommended for Curators, Registrars, TMS database managers, and TMS administrators.
Following this course, you will be able to:
- Modify Security Groups and create new Security groups

Simple SQL and Alerts for TMS
Course Fee: $300

This course takes you from SQL newbie to SQL “do”-bie in one half-day session. Learn how to use SQL alerts and other basic SQL functions to help speed up your TMS work.
Structured Query Language (SQL) is the query workhorse behind every TMS search, and can be used to manage data at the database level. This course is for those with little to no SQL experience.
Note that this course focuses on Microsoft SQL Server. Oracle databases may differ.

eMuseum Configuration and Customization
Course Fee: $300

This course covers eMuseum configuration, basic template structure and styling, default fields and how to configure them, and how to add new fields. We’ll also cover some of the ways eMuseum exposes APIs, handles Search Engine Optimization (SEO), manages Linked Open Data, and filtering results.
After this course, you will be able to:
- Understand how to configure eMuseum’s default settings
- Understand eMuseum’s template structure and how to style it for a custom look and feel
- Understand the eMuseum API

Beyond the AAT & TGN: Using Custom Thesauri for Better Documentation

This introduction to Thesauri and TMS Thesaurus Manager will teach you how to build your own keyword structures, tap into the vast network of controlled vocabularies and thesauri from around the world, and discover how these tools can significantly improve your documentation.
While this workshop will overview the Thesaurus Manager, the primary focus will be on researching and building your own Thesauri.
Following this course, you will be able to:
- Have an overview of what a (polyhierarchical) thesaurus is
- Learn how to build your own specialised vocabularies
- Find existing thesauri and vocabularies and how to import them
This course assumes that you have basic familiarity with TMS and linking attributes.
Intro to Designing List Views & Dataviews
Course Fee: $300

Dataviews and List Views enable you to customize the display of your collection’s data, but making sense of an XSLT file can be challenging. In this class you’ll learn quick, straightforward ways to create and customize dataviews. You’ll learn how to: Write simple and clean XSLT code to format and display your dataviews, Use templates and existing tools to do more with fewer lines of code. Style your dataviews with CSS (Cascading Style Sheets), Import, export and preview your dataviews using TMS List View Designer.
After this course, attendees will:
- Be able to create new data views from scratch or by copying an existing dataviews.
- Be able to add data to data views through SQL views, while also being able to structure and style it.
- Leave with an understanding of how to utilize 3rd party APIs and plugins, such as Google Maps and jQuery tabs.
Attendees should have a basic understanding of XML, HTML, and SQL. Knowledge of CSS and Javascript are a plus.
ULAN and Other Linked Open Data: Enrich Your Collections Information Using Metadata to Enhance Searchability

This workshop will help you harness the power of metadata and vocabularies, such as ULAN, to advance your collection’s web presence, and open up more meaningful possibilities for visibility and engagement.

- Understand what Linked Open Data is and why it’s important
- Use vocabularies for the web in general, and in eMuseum, specifically
This workshop is best suited for those who have basic knowledge of TMS, HTML, and vocabularies/Thesauri.
Tips & Tricks: Efficient TMS in Practice
Course Fee: $300 | 1:30 PM to 4:30 PM (half-day)
Are you familiar with all the plugins, tools and shortcuts that can make your daily TMS experience more efficient and rewarding? Did you know TMS provides tools to batch update certain fields? Have you ever considered using the function keys? or did you know you can create hierarchical relations in the Constituents Module? TMS offers many features and tricks that can help you to expedite your daily routines.
This course is open to all TMS users but highly recommended to new and intermediate users.
After completing this course, attendees will be able to:
- Use multiple tips and tricks available throughout TMS, such as bringing insurance values into UDFs, understand Flex fields, Folders and Packages or how to activate and use the translations tab and more.
- Customize their searching options and feel comfortable using the Query Assistant & Advanced Query, as well as performing complex searches such as looking for Flex fields, Thesaurus terms or what records a staff member has modified in TMS.
- Manage efficiently all plugins available in TMS, including TMS Importer, Media Loader, Thumbnailer & Z39.50.
